We review the rapid progress in our understanding of planetary system formation and evolution from the definition of the FUSE science mission to the present day. FUV studies have complemented observations at longer wavelengths by providing critical data on the composition and chemistry of exoplanetary atmospheres, debris disks, and the survival of molecular gas near young stars, as well as delineating accretion and mass loss phenomena for protoplanetary disk systems. Evolutionary studies have mapped the radiation input to young planetary atmospheres, and have the potential to shed light on activity cycles and the frequency of Maunder-minimum type events. The rapid pace of discoveries in this area at other wavelengths demands continued access to the UV/FUV, particularly after the end of the HST mission.
