We investigate the photometric redshift accuracy achievable from infrared data alone in AKARI Deep Surveys. We exploit both real data and detailed simulations to conclude that the passage of redshifted policyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) and silicate features into the 8-24 μm window cover by AKARI can successfully be used to constrain redshift to an accuracy better than ˜10 per cent at z<2, provided that emission from AGN (if any) is not dominant in the infrared. At higher redshifts, the rest-frame 1.6 μm feature associated to evolved stars can be used as a less accurate redshift estimator.
