The OSSE instrument on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory observed the transient hard x-ray source GRO J0422+32 (IAUC 5580) between August 11 and September 17, 1992. Spectral data were obtained over the energy range 0.05--4.5 MeV, and the source was detected significantly at energies up to at least 700 keV. The observed source spectrum is not compatible with a single power law (IAUC 5587), and shows a thermalized emission spectrum with a characteristic temperature of about 100 keV. The spectral data will be compared to various models for thermalized emission from compact objects, as well as previously observed objects such as Cygnus X-1 and GX 339--04. The 38-day baseline of OSSE observations of this source are used to examine the time evolution of the emission, including source luminosity, spectral hardness and spectral shape.
