Resonantly scattered radiation in an AGN broad emission line cloud will be polarised when the radiation field is anisotropic. Source function and absorption coefficients have been computed for a variety of transitions and it is argued that the degree of polarisation should be correlated with the change in the electronic state. Both collisionally and radiatively- driven population of the ground sublevels are considered, the former being appropriate for semi-forbidden lines and the latter for permitted lines. Integrated intrinsic polarisations are computed for a variety of assumed cloud distribution using a Monte Carlo procedure.
