PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is a satellite mission which was proposed in 2007 for ESA's Cosmic Vision Programme for 2015-2025. It has been selected as one of four M-class missions for an assessment phase which is ongoing and which will continue until mid-2009. If finally selected in 2011, it will be launched in 2017-2018.
