Differences in linear polarization have been found in cometary comae, pointing to different physical properties of the dust (e.g. sizes of the grains, of the aggregates, structures and porosities). Such differences as well as wavelength effects (1,2), tend to show that large aggregates made of submicron-sized grains seem to be present in some comae regions and comets (3,4), on the opposite more compact particles seem to be present in other regions or comets (5,6). We will present our observations of comet 9P (at Deep Impact event) and of the two main fragments (B and C) of comet 73P with a comparison to the results obtained during the complete disruption of comet C/1999 S4.
Two days after the Deep Impact event, the dust currently ejected by the nucleus is detected in the inner part in the coma of Comet 9P and the dust ejected by the impact is found in the south-west direction with different physical properties (6).
The dust ejected by 73P-C shows a slightly higher polarization than the dust ejected by fragment B. Evolution of coma structures can be followed on the polarization maps.
