We report the first results of a near-IR imaging study to investigate the properties of quasar host galaxies as a function of nuclear luminosity. Our observations have several advantages over CCD observations of similar systems. The spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of the stars are likely to peak at near-IR wavelengths, where the nuclear SEDs often have local minima; thus, we may observe the galaxy light with relatively smaller contamination from nuclear emission. Also, the near-IR images should be less sensitive to the accretion-related line emission that is known to contaminate broad-band optical images. Furthermore, the near-IR light traces the galaxy's red stellar population and thus its mass distribution. Finally, many of the samples in the CCD quasar host studies have been ill-defined; we have selected a complete sample of quasars whose properties are well understood. In this poster, we present H images of 25 low-luminosity quasars with z~0.1. The images were obtained with a 256x256 NICMOS array camera on the Steward Observatory 2.3m telescope. Host galaxies were detected in almost all cases. We extracted radial brightness profiles by fitting elliptical isophotes to the quasar images. We then used one-dimensional modelling of the profile to remove the nuclear point source, represented by the profile of a star observed simultaneously or nearly simultaneously with the quasar. We present galaxy magnitudes, sizes, and, where possible, morphological types.
