The detection in the millimeter wavelength range of isotopic molecular lines of CO from the cloud responsible for the W 40 nebula is reported. The observations were made with angular resolutions of 12 to 32 arcsec using the IRAM Pico Veleta 30-m telescope and the NRAO Kitt Peak 12-m telescope. In crossing the molecular cloud from edge to peak, a decrease is found for the ratio of Tr*(C-13)O/C(O-18) from 7 (edge) to 3(peak), a decrease of the ratio of Tr*(C-13)O2-1/(C-13)O(1-0) from 3 (edge) to 1 (peak). The (C-13)O 1-0 peak is found at RA50 = 18 h 28 m 37.9 s, Dec 50 = -02 deg 09 min 42 sec, and v(lsr) = +5 km/s.
