We present the first galaxy-galaxy weak lensing results from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) Legacy Survey. These results are based on ˜22 sq.degrees of i'-band imaging data. From these data we estimate the average halo velocity dispersion, mass and mass-to-light ratio of an L* galaxy at a redshift of 0.3. We also use lensing to estimate the shapes of galaxy halos. Our results favour a dark matter halo with an ellipticity of ˜0.4. If dark matter halos are confirmed to be non-spherical this places constraints on alternative theories of gravity and supporting evidence for cold dark matter models.
