We analyse the onset criterion for the Jeans instability, in addition to the parametric instability, within a magnetized yet dynamic plasma medium characterized by a travelling monochromatic, finite-amplitude, circularly polarized Alfvén wavetrain. In contrast to the usual Jeans instability, the magnetic Jeans instability in the direction along the Alfvén wavetrain grows in an oscillatory manner as a result of magnetic restoring forces, with a magnetic Jeans length longer than the usual Jeans length. Since the magnetic Jeans length in the direction perpendicular to the Alfvén wavetrain is also longer than the usual Jeans length, the magnetic Jeans mass should be larger than the usual Jeans mass in general.
