Many next-generation dark energy and dark matter projects rely upon precise photometric redshifts, derived from colors of galaxies. Although the norm in photometry is to correct to fluxes at the top of the atmosphere, galaxy colors must be corrected for extinction through the Milky Way. The PanSTARRS survey will provide a new data set that can be used in conjunction with other data sets to map out the wavelength dependence of Galactic extinction. This is an essential prerequisite for the success of upcoming dark energy projects, both ground-based and space-based.We present an approach to making a new Galactic extinction map.
