An analysis is made of the formation and relaxation of the ion composition of interstellar gas at 10 to the 4th K in the vicinity of a nonstationary source of ionizing radiation. The relative concentrations of the high-charge ions C IV, N V, O VI, Si III, Si IV, and Si VI in a nonstationary H II zone are calculated as a function of time for simple models with instantaneous switching on and off of the source. Approximate formulas relating to the parameters of the nonstationary H II region to the source power and the time elapsed after switching on are presented.
