The VLA has been used to synthesize the spatial distribution of 21-cm wavelength H I absorption from some 15 galactic clouds occulting 3C 111, 3C 161, and 3C 348. The angular resolution of the observations is between 3.5 and 4.4 arcsec, and the background continua extend irregularly over regions of angular size 1 to 3 arcmin. On scales of 1 arcmin, it is found that substantial but smooth variations in channel and line properties are the norm, rather than the exception. The observations suggest that the internal structure of H I (or diffuse) clouds is ordered, in the sense that any underlying chaotic behavior occurs on scales much smaller than the resolution, but still highly nonuniform.
