The problem of radiation-driven spherically symmetric winds is here reexamined. The relativistic hydrodynamical equations are derived both for an optically thick and for an optically thin flow in a Schwarzschild background. A detailed analysis clarifies the relevance of critical and subcritical points in the quest for a regular solution. Numerical models are constructed, and their connection with astrophysical phenomena is briefly discussed.
