A description is presented of the results of the application of the optimization technique of Simmons et al. (1980) to seven binaries, taking into account Algol, A0 Cas, HD47129, Sigma Ori E (B and U band filter data), u Her, U Sge, and V444 Cygni. Attention is given to phase binning and its implications, the application of the canonical model, and the system A0 Cas as an example of the considered procedure. It is shown that polarimetry can give an independent check on values obtained by other methods. The results are discussed and possible improvements in observational and analytical techniques are considered.
