Wavelength Coincidence Statistics (WCS) and traditional identification techniques have been used to search for atoms and ions absorbing in the midultraviolet spectrum of Alpha 2 CVn, which has been obtained with the BUSS experiment near to phase of minimum rare-earth line strength. At a 99.5-percent confidence level, the ions Mg II, Si II, Cr II, Fe II, Fe III, Co II, Ni II, Yb III, and W II were identified. The identification of doubly ionized ytterbium in a chemical peculiar star is unprecedented, but not unexpected. The occasion is used to discuss briefly the influence of correlations between laboratory lists on WCS. Also, it is shown that the addition of intensity estimates to the stellar features may extend considerably the usefulness of WCS, particularly in dealing with high line densities and small number statistics.
