The usefulness of a short length scale for extragalactic distances and the impossibility of establishing a long scale of measurement are demonstrated through comparisons of distance projections for the Virgo E cluster of galaxies. Measurements of distance based on luminosity functions for the Virgo E cluster show the cluster to be of 23.3 magnitude, while the short scale predicts a 30.37 and the long scale a 31.76 magnitude. Differences in magnitude between globular clusters and their RR Lyr type variable stars have been calculated to be 0.8, with the short scale yielding a 0.78 figure and the long scale 0.46. The short scale sets the galactocentric distance at 8.4 kpc and the long scale predicts 15.2 kpc, with previous estimates indicating an 8.5 kpc distance. The short scale is concluded to be accurate to within 0.1-0.2 mag and to serve as evidence for the validity of the Hubble constant at 95.
