Theoretical line profiles of HZ Her are calculated based on a model in which the mass transfer between the components is in the form of a stream and/or ring. A semi-analytical method is used to calculate the profiles of the spectral lines, and the dependence of the calculated profile on the phase is demonstrated. It is concluded that the gaseous ring rotating around the compact component in the system always produces two emission peaks in the line profile, and that the emission in Balmer lines can be detected only if the excitation of the gaseous matter is extremely high.
