A preliminary summary of results of a radio survey of the molecular clouds at the galactic center using the Effelsberg telescope is presented. Parts of the inner 15 arcmin of the nucleus were mapped in terms of the two lowest inversion lines of NH3 and in the 2(11)-2(12) transition of formaldehyde. Attention was also given to higher transitions of NH3 at 200-300 K above the ground temperature, and a search for water masers was performed. NH3 peaks were observed and concluded to be areas of mass condensation, rather than hot spots. The most prominent of the peaks was a 20 km/sec rotating cloud, while a cloud between Sgr East and West displayed a 100 pc radius and a 50 km/sec rotational speed. The NH3 rotational temperature was determined to be about 100 K. Three weak sources of H2O masers, indicating possible regions of star formation, were detected, together with evidence of a velocity gradient of the galactic rotation.
