Slit scans (2.2 and 3.8 microns) of five molecular cloud sources showing a sub-arc s structure are presented. It is noted that W3/IRS9 is a double with a separation of 2.4 arcsec and a position angle of 29 deg. The brighter component itself is resolved and found to be more extended north-south than east-west. S235/IRS4 is found to be extended east-west. Three sources in NGC 7538 are extended with the complex geometry exhibited by the IRS1-IRS2 association. It is concluded that a large proportion of the objects are extended on a scale of 10 to the 16th-10 to the 17th cm (approximately 0.01 pc). An analysis of the observed fluxes and color temperatures suggests that the observed sizes do not correspond to thermally radiating surfaces but rather to scattering surfaces.
