Technical problems involved in the development of an IR space interferometer are discussed, and several types of space interferometers are described. Different versions include a heterodyne interferometer, a direct signal registration interferometer, an interferometer on a rigid frame, and interferometers on separate spacecraft. The value of an IR space interferometer for the development of modern astronomy is considered.
