Observations on the sea floor of naturally occurring electromagnetic
signals reveal information on the deep structure of the Earth. Recent
magnetotelluric soundings on the North Central Pacific have produced
conductivity measurements which may relate to the partially molten zone
or asthenosphere on which the well lubricated oceanic plates slide.
