Most of our information on the state and structure of stellar atmospheres derives from studies of the emitted radiation field, however, radiation transfer in a stellar atmosphere has been usually studied within the confines of plane-parallel or spherically symmetric geometry. In the present paper, the importance of studying multidimensional radiation transport is pointed out, and some consequences of introducing more complex and more realistic geometries to the study of astrophysical radiation transfer are discussed.
