The application of a charge-coupled device sensor at the focal plane of a Schmidt telescope is described. The device installed on the 60/90/180 cm Schmidt telescope has a field of view of 17 x 25 arcmin. A special LN2 cooling system was installed inside the telescope without any modification to the plate holder itself. Tests of the instrument show it is a powerful tool in studying large angular objects like nearby galaxies, globular clusters, and clusters of galaxies. Sensitivity is high enough to reach the 21.8th magnitude V with a signal-to-noise ratio of 1.5 in 40 min of exposure.
