A modern form of the Kant-Laplace hypothesis on the origin of the solar system has been developed. This theory, along with condensation chemistry and agglomeration mechanics may be used in the development of models of the early solar nebula, which eventually led to the formation of planets. Various topics regarding the origin of the earth-moon system are described, including: (1) how the moon became associated with the earth, (2) the chemical compositions of the moon and the earth, and (3) how the earth became heated. Current and suggested research topics are outlined, noting those related to lunar formation, the formation of other satellites, and the formation of the earth.
