We present the results of the analysis of the rising phase of two X-ray bursts from MXB 1728-34. We find that the spectra can be fitted best by a blackbody, the emission area of which rises rapidly to a constant value before the peak of the burst is reached. This result is interpreted as placing a limit of 0.1 s on the time taken for the thermonuclear flash to spread over the surface of the neutron star.
