The paper examines the problem of realizing an orbital gyrocompass in the form of a three-DOF gyroscope whose position is corrected according to the local-vertical plotter signal. It is shown that an orbital gyrocompass that is synthesized on the basis of the quasi-optimal distribution of the characteristic-equation roots has an asymptotic accuracy that is unattainable for gyrocompasses based on the binomial and Butterworth distributions.
