A search is performed for low surface brightness hot gas in the region surrounding the known 106 K lobes of the symbiotic binary R Aqr. Such gas would have long cooling times, and so should have accumulated over thousands of years of outbursts from the central WD and accretion disk. The gas should be detectable by its OVII line emission in the spectra of archival Chandra and XMM data.
