Marsden's differential equations of the motion of comets and the Newtonian equation for elliptical Keplerian osculating elements yield a relationship between Marsden's results and calculations of secular corrections in the orbits of elements obtained by Dubiago's method. An example using the comet Schaumasse shows that the secular corrections to the semimajor axis and to the eccentricity are in agreement, although different techniques were used to obtain them.
