The VHF receiving system of a telemetry ground station is described. The equipment is used at the Arcetri Observatory for the tracking of two Solrad-11 satellites which carry on X-ray and UV astrophysical experiments. The high altitude of the satellites (about 120,000 km) causes a very low signal at the receiving terminal. The technical solutions adopted in the choice of the antenna and of the receiver configuration are described.
