High-dispersion coude spectrograms of Nova Cygni 1975 obtained around maximum light are analyzed. Line identifications are given, radial velocities of several interstellar lines are determined, and the distance to the nova is estimated as 1.4 plus or minus 0.2 kpc. Radial velocities and equivalent widths of the absorption and emission components of the Balmer lines up to H-delta are computed along with the Balmer decrement of the emission lines. The absolute visible magnitude at maximum light is estimated to be -10.1, from which is inferred a photospheric radius of 570 solar radii at maximum. It is suggested that the mean expansion velocity of the photosphere is 1800 km/s and that the assumption of a constant expansion velocity during the rise to maximum is an oversimplification.
