A search for 6-cm H2CO and 110-alpha recombination lines has been made with a 100-m radio telescope in the direction of 18 bright rims in nine nebulae. H2CO absorption has been detected near the rims in IC 1848, IC 434, and NGC 2264. Hydrogen recombination lines have been detected near the elephant-trunk structures in M 16 and possibly near rim B in IC 1396. The structure observed in the H2CO profiles may reflect peculiar motion in the neighborhood of the ionization fronts. Some evidence for an H2CO line enhancement has been observed in the vicinity of two rims. The enhancement seems to occur over a small region in which the rims are embedded. The enhanced electron density may be concentrated in a thin layer. The H 110-alpha line in M 16 splits into two components which have counterparts in the optical O III line.
