Galactic Structure: Carbon Monoxide, Galactic Structure: Neutral Hydrogen, Galactic Structure: Spiral Arms
Scientific paper
In studying the structure of our Galaxy, the author deduces the radial and longitudinal distributions of H I and CO emissivities at subcentral points, from data in the range of 10° < l < 80°, b = 0. The relation between these distributions and the structure of existing spiral arm models is also analyzed. The results show that there is no tendency for higher H I and CO emissions in spiral arms at subcentral points and the strong CO emission still exists in the interarm regions. The author obtains little or no evidence that CO traces spiral arms fitted by the 21 cm H I emission as well as optical and radio H II regions and little evidence which shows the existence of H I spiral arms themselves.
