Spectra of 87 red stars in the direction of the Fornax dwarf elliptical galaxy have been obtained. Nine are foreground M-type dwarfs, one is an M-type subgiant, and the remainder are considered to be members of the Fornax dwarf elliptical galaxy. Of the members seven are S-type, twenty K-type, two M, seven MS, seven carbon, and five SC stars. This raises the number of confirmed oxygen-rich giants later than K from two to fifteen. The S:C ratio in Fornax is found to be at least 1:7. Magnitudes and colors are computed from the flux-calibrated spectra. Near-infrared JHK photometry for a few stars is used to derive M(bol). The most luminous oxygen-rich stars are found to be slightly less luminous than the most luminous carbon star in the Fornax dwarf galaxy.
