The aim of this study is to find the most suitable polarimetric analysis techniques for boreal forest remote sensing under variable weather conditions with L- and C-band SAR. Extensive ground truth data is combined with polarimetric SAR images for analysis. By using fully polarimetric SAR images from two imaging dates the temporal stability and relation to forest properties of different polarimetric descriptors is studied. Results show, that best parameter for forest biomass mapping is L-band HV backscattering coefficient. Application of complicated polarimetric analysis techniques did not give additional benefit.
