Considerable effort has been devoted to the observation of the solar diameter over the past three (four) centuries. The results of many observationals programmes of the solar radius, and using differents techniques, exhibit a considerable number of periodicities. Even as these measurements display a large dispersion, they suggest that solar activity modifies the limb definition and the solar shape, thus producing apparent radius variations at least comparable to the historical observations. Recently, a solar asphericity has been interpreted as a dominant cause of solar cycle variations and for each solar cycle show a dependence with de heliograph latitude. On the other hand, comparison between ground radius measuring and the spacial experiments MDI-SOHO datasets displays similar behavior but with amplitudes 20 times lower.
