The development of space research has led to the appearance of UV, X-ray, and gamma astronomy. The development of exoatmospheric astronomy is the principal gain which astronomy has received from space research. The development of space investigation is affording the possibility of formulating the problem of solar system cosmogony on a truly scientific basis. It is now possible for a detailed comparative analysis of the different planets, especially the planets of the earth group. Other advances in our understanding of astronomy which have resulted from space exploration are enumerated.
