Two types of low-dispersion (lower than 500 A/mm at 0.75 micron) ground-based spectroscopy in the near-IR spectral region between 0.7 and 0.9 micron are described. Objective-prism and grating techniques in the near-IR are considered, along with a slitless spectrographic technique involving nonobjective dispersors. Results of some low-dispersion near-IR surveys are reviewed, emphasizing the techniques employed and limiting magnitudes attained.
