A study of mass ratio (the ratio of the mass of the secondary to that of the primary component) versus period in eclipsing binaries is presented. The investigation, which focuses on binaries with periods no greater than 5.0 days, considers 98 eclipsing binary systems. The results provide an aid for determining the mass ratios of semidetached binary systems without resort to spectroscopic observations.
