A brief summary is presented about current activities in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics related to Spacelab applications. Special emphasis is put on the description of the scientific objectives of the German D-4 mission, which is proposed to be equipped with a variety of instruments almost completely covering the electromagnetic spectrum from the infrared to gamma rays. Missions of this type will help in the testing and developing of theoretical physics, as the universe is the only laboratory where the most energetic reactions occur. There will be a large impact on understanding the fundamental physical processes driving the evolution of a star. In that respect, infrared and X-ray astronomy are very sensitive tools. They are discussed in some detail to illuminate their capabilities utilizing Spacelab.
