A 1420 MHz map of a region of 25 x 28 deg in Orion is presented, which has the high sensitivity of 40 mK (greater than or equal to 3 times r.m.s. noise in TB) and is absolutely calibrated. The angular resolution is about 34 min of half power beamwidth. The map is compared with maps at 408 MHz and at 820 MHz to look for radio spurs and to derive the distribution of the spectral index. A detailed discussion is given of the region of Barnard's Loop which surrounds the Orion association I and of the Lambda Orionis region north of Barnard's Loop. The latter H II region has a maximum extent of 8 deg at 1420 MHz and in H-alpha maps. Its electron density is only about 2 per cu cm.
