The appearance within the past five weeksof two sunspots with `backwards' magneticpolarity has scientists debating whether theyare the first sunspots of the new solar cycle.An early start to cycle 24, originally predictedto begin in 2007, could indicate that it will bemore active than the current one, said DavidHathaway, a solar physicist at NASA's MarshallSpace Flight Center.
