The spatial and temporal distributions of the northern hemisphere originated dust storms observed by the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) will be presented. These storms are concentrated in low-topographic channels during the periods away from the northern winter solstice in the cold season. In MY 26, both the pre-solstice (Ls <240°) and the post-solstice period (Ls >300°) can be further divided into two active flushing dust storm sub-periods with a hiatus in between them. The most vigorous dust storms (Ls 210° - 220° and Ls 310° - 320°) formed storm sequences that resulted in temporal dust accumulation in the southern hemisphere following the initial flushing events. These major dust storms enhanced the Hadley circulation and suppressed the lower level baroclinic eddies in the northern mid/high latitudes. The 2 - 3 day m = 3 eastward traveling waves show the best correlation with active flushing dust storms. They can combine with other wave modes to produce storm tracks and / or fronts within individual sub-periods.
