We have coordinated radar observations and spectral observations of low-albedo main-belt asteroids in order to investigate whether there is a radar signature for hydrated minerals. A suggestion of such a correlation from serendipitous observations of 105 Artemis indicated that hydrated minerals might have higher radar albedos. About 30 objects have now been sampled, including re-observing 105 Artemis, and the relationship may not be a simple one. The radar images of many of these asteroids, primarily of taxonomic classes C and P, are remarkably complex, showing bright glints and irregular features. In order to link the radar and spectra together over several weeks, we have asked the amateur astronomy community for lightcurve observations. Their generous response has been extremely valuable. In many cases, we have found that the rotation period differs considerably from the previous best estimates Lightcurve observations also allow us to determine the relative rotation phase of spectra and radar observations made several weeks apart. . We can also improve the interpretation of the radar data considerably if the rotation period is known independently. Results of these combined observations will be presented.
