One meteorite and four possible others, all pieces of asteroids, have been identified since 2005 on the plains and hills of Mars by the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) science team. Christian Schroder (NASA Johnson Space Center) and an international team of cosmochemists and planetary scientists have summarized the investigations of these five rocks. The team reports on the chemistry and mineralogy of the rocks based on data obtained from the suite of instruments onboard the rovers and discusses what these chance discoveries tell us about the Martian environment.
