In equation (4) of the Letter ``The Central Engine of Gamma-Ray Bursters'' by W. Kluźniak and M. Ruderman (ApJ, 505, L113 [1998]), the factor 2pi is spurious and should be replaced by unity, with no change to the numerical estimate. All numerical estimates were derived for a critical field value nearly twice as large as estimated on p. L115-this does not alter the arguments and conclusions.
