It is shown that the radiation field in 3C 227 is strongly anisotropic. The presence of a narrow ionizing beam along PA of about 35 is clearly supported by the spectroscopic and imaging data. Evidence for such a beam is provided by the analysis of very localized regions in the extended nebula and its comparison with properties derived at other positions in the gas. A full spatial spectroscopic covering of the extended nebulosities associated with AGN is crucial to an understanding of the very localized but relevant behavior in such extended structures.
