A plane phase screen model is used to describe the effects of atmospheric height-dependent inhomogeneities during radio occultation of planetary atmospheres. The phase screen is characterized by a complex transmission coefficient and is conditioned by broadening of ray tubes; in other words the inhomogeneities condition amplitude and phase variations of radio waves. In the present atmospheric model, phase screen characteristics can be determined by solving the eikonal equations.
