An extremely rare encounter with the dust trail of a long-period comet was forecasted for September 1, 2007. The meteoroids were ejected in 83 BC, give or take a century, and originated from comet C/1911 N1 (Kiess). The encounter was expected to result in a 1.5-hour long shower of meteors radiating from the constellation of Auriga. The complete simulation of the evolution of the stream allowed us to forecast the event and to setup an airborne and ground-based observing campaign, with the goal to test the comet ejection model and search for evidence of a pristine comet crust. We present here the first results of these observations.
