In this paper we critically discuss the physics and the behaviour of a star which is subjected to a large mass gain process as is the case during the Roche lobe overflow in a close binary. Arguments are given in favor of large scale mixing of the star during accretion. Evolutionary computations are presented where this large scale mixing process is included; the results are compared to classsical accretion models.
